making history

From an era of exceptional performance, for a more inclusive future.
Despite their monumental accomplishments, too few know the story of the Tigerbelles.

So Nike made it impossible to ignore. Through a large-scale art installation built entirely from track spikes, recreating the iconic photograph of the Tigerbelles crossing the finish line at the 1978 AAU Track and Field Championships.

Led by artists Kevin Pierce and Gertrude East, with design by Michael Ocasio Arana, the work stands as a permanent tribute.

Making the Tigerbelles’ legacy visible. Forever Making the Tigerbelles’ legacy visible. Forever

A spike in history.

Nike dropped an Instagram Reel to amplify the Tigerbelles’ story, making sure their legacy is seen, shared, and carried forward.

Passing the baton to the future.

For those who want to feel the weight of it up close, the installation lives at the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. 25,984 spikes, immortalizing a moment, and a legacy that will never be ignored.
